I do not even pass judgment on myself;
I am not conscious of anything against me,
but I do not thereby stand acquitted;
the one who judges me is the Lord.

Gospel Mt 6:24-34

Jesus said to his disciples:
"No one can serve two masters.
He will either hate one and love the other,
or be devoted to one and despise the other.
You cannot serve God and mammon.

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life,
what you will eat or drink,
or about your body, what you will wear.
Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?
Look at the birds in the sky;
they do not sow or reap, they gather nothing into barns,
yet your heavenly Father feeds them.
Are not you more important than they?
Can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your life-span?
Why are you anxious about clothes?
Learn from the way the wild flowers grow.
They do not work or spin.
But I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor
was clothed like one of them.
If God so clothes the grass of the field,
which grows today and is thrown into the oven tomorrow,
will he not much more provide for you, O you of little faith?
So do not worry and say, 'What are we to eat?'
or 'What are we to drink?'or 'What are we to wear?'
All these things the pagans seek.
Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness,
and all these things will be given you besides.
Do not worry about tomorrow; tomorrow will take care of itself.
Sufficient for a day is its own evil."

MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS,

 Do we really think that God can forsake us? Many times in our lives we may feel that way because of the situations that we find ourselves in. This is what self-justification is all about. Whatever problems we face or situations that we find ourselves in, it is very easy to blame someone else instead of reflecting on the decisions that we made that brought ourselves to the present situation. If only everyone else thought the same way we did, everything would be okay. In reality, we always have a major influence on where we are and what our present situation is. Free Will is a wonderful gift from God yet we tend to abuse it and try to dismiss it when circumstances suite our needs. It is never God’s fault. In the Scripture Reading today, God sounds a little exasperated as He speaks through the Prophet Isaiah:

“Can a mother forget her infant,
be without tenderness for the child of her womb?
Even should she forget,
I will never forget you.”

This is His promise to us. We as Christians should come to the understanding that it is we who forget God as we chase after all those temptations and allures that we find within our lives. As we proceed forward chasing after our dreams and fulfillment of our earthy desires, God can easily become an afterthought. Acting like children, we chase after what we want and many times we feel that nothing will get in our way as we try to achieve what we want to achieve. What do we really want to achieve? How important is it really to us? Is what we are chasing after something material which will not really matter in the end when we are taken from this earthly existence? It can easily be stated that the answer to that question is a resounding “YES.” In our human nature, influenced by Original Sin, we will find ourselves focusing our time and energy on things that might make us happy in the short term but destroy us in the long term. How easy it is to forget God as we pursue what we want to pursue even if it is against our best interests. God always has our best interests as His central concern. It is us who find it very easy not to have God as ours. Our challenge is to love God as much as He loves us. He will never forget us. We, on the other hand, commonly forget Him.

Jesus simplifies this predicament: Have total trust in God. As Christians, this is obligation that will bring us closer to him and father away from sin. God created us. God loves us. God will never abandon us. If we live our lives with these precepts central to our decisions then we will experience the joy of being His children. We are not the most important thing when it comes to living. The world and all it offers does not recognize us as its central point. We all are part of something bigger which is God’s Creation. God is throughout this creation which means that He also dwells within us. If He is within us, is it even possible that He could remove Himself from us? Of course not. Even if He pulls Himself away, it is only so that we can search for Him and become closer to Him. Because of this, we can always turn to Him and offer everything to Him knowing that we will be safe and secure.

All of us have probably struggled with the concept of God being our Father at one time or another. We are so used to controlling everything. Yet, this control is superficial. We are not in control of anything. In fact, it can be argued that we are actually out of control in comparison to where we would be if we just surrendered everything over to God. It is that simple: To experience true joy we do not have to search for it. We just have to know that God is with us and walk with Him.

Evangelio Mt 6, 24-34

"Por eso os digo, no os preocupéis por vuestra vida,

¿No es la vida más que la comida y el cuerpo más que la ropa?

Tu Padre celestial sabe que las necesitas todas.
Buscad primero el reino de Dios y su justicia,
Y todas estas cosas os serán dadas además.
No te preocupes por mañana; Mañana se hará cargo de sí mismo.
Suficiente por un día es su propio mal. "

MIS HERMANOS Y HERMANAS,


 ¿Realmente pensamos que Dios puede abandonarnos? Muchas veces en nuestras vidas podemos sentirnos así debido a las situaciones en las que nos encontramos. Esto es lo que significa la autojustificación. Independientemente de los problemas a los que nos enfrentamos o situaciones en las que nos encontremos, es muy fácil culpar a otra persona en lugar de reflexionar sobre las decisiones que tomamos que nos llevaron a la situación actual. Si todo el mundo pensara lo mismo que nosotros, todo estaría bien. En realidad, siempre tenemos una gran influencia sobre dónde estamos y cuál es nuestra situación actual. El libre albedrío es un maravilloso regalo de Dios, pero tendemos a abusar de él y tratar de descartarlo cuando las circunstancias satisfacen nuestras necesidades. Nunca es culpa de Dios. En la lectura de la Escritura de hoy, Dios suena un poco exasperado cuando Él habla a través del Profeta Isaías:

"¿Puede una madre olvidar a su bebé,
Estar sin ternura por el hijo de su vientre?
Incluso si ella olvidara,
Nunca te olvidaré."

Esta es su promesa a nosotros. Nosotros, como cristianos, debemos llegar al entendimiento de que somos nosotros quienes olvidamos a Dios mientras perseguimos a todas las tentaciones y seducciones que encontramos en nuestras vidas. A medida que avanzamos persiguiendo nuestros sueños y el cumplimiento de nuestros deseos terrenales, Dios puede fácilmente convertirse en una idea posterior. Actuando como niños, perseguimos lo que queremos y muchas veces sentimos que nada se interpondrá en nuestro camino mientras tratamos de lograr lo que queremos lograr. ¿Qué es lo que realmente queremos lograr? ¿Cuán importante es realmente para nosotros? ¿Es lo que estamos persiguiendo después de algo material que realmente no importa al final cuando somos sacados de esta existencia terrenal? Se puede afirmar fácilmente que la respuesta a esa pregunta es un rotundo "SI". En nuestra naturaleza humana, influenciada por el Pecado Original, nos encontraremos enfocando nuestro tiempo y energía en cosas que podrían hacernos felices en el corto plazo pero destruir A largo plazo. Lo fácil que es olvidar a Dios mientras seguimos lo que queremos seguir, incluso si es contra nuestros mejores intereses. Dios siempre tiene nuestros mejores intereses como su principal preocupación. Somos nosotros los que nos resulta muy fácil no tener a Dios como nuestro. Nuestro desafío es amar a Dios tanto como nos ama. Él nunca nos olvidará. Nosotros, por otra parte, comúnmente lo olvidamos.

Jesús simplifica esta situación: Tenga total confianza en Dios. Como cristianos, esta es la obligación que nos acercará a él ya su padre lejos del pecado. Dios nos creó. Dios nos ama. Dios nunca nos abandonará. Si vivimos nuestras vidas con estos preceptos centrales en nuestras decisiones entonces experimentaremos la alegría de ser Sus hijos. No somos lo más importante cuando se trata de vivir. El mundo y todo lo que ofrece no nos reconoce como su punto central. Todos somos parte de algo más grande que es la Creación de Dios. Dios es a lo largo de esta creación lo que significa que Él también habita en nosotros. Si Él está dentro de nosotros, ¿es posible que Él pudiera apartarse de nosotros? Por supuesto no. Incluso si Él se retira, es sólo para que podamos buscarlo y acercarnos a Él. Debido a esto, siempre podemos recurrir a Él y ofrecerle todo a Él sabiendo que estaremos seguros.

Todos nosotros probablemente hemos luchado con el concepto de que Dios es nuestro Padre en un momento u otro. Estamos tan acostumbrados a controlar todo. Sin embargo, este control es superficial. No tenemos control sobre nada. De hecho, se puede argumentar que en realidad estamos fuera de control en comparación con donde estaríamos si nos entregáramos todo a Dios. Es así de simple: para experimentar la verdadera alegría no tenemos que buscarla. Sólo tenemos que saber que Dios está con nosotros y caminar con Él.

If anyone wants to go to law with you over your tunic,
hand over your cloak as well.
Should anyone press you into service for one mile,
go for two miles.
Give to the one who asks of you,
and do not turn your back on one who wants to borrow.

"You have heard that it was said,
You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.
But I say to you, love your enemies
and pray for those who persecute you,
that you may be children of your heavenly Father,
for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good,
and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.
For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have?
Do not the tax collectors do the same?
And if you greet your brothers only,
what is unusual about that?
Do not the pagans do the same?
So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect."

MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS,

As Christians, hatred does not belong in our hearts. We are encouraged to remove all those negative thoughts and distorted emotions that easily creep in daily as we live our lives. This is in stark contrast to what we see every day in society. It is common for people to lash out, yell, complain, and accuse. Jesus Christ wants to show us a different way. These strong feelings serve as a dividing force between us and a life of joy. They originate from Satan, building up obstacles between us and a truly Christian Life. Every time we act on these emotions, our relationship with Jesus Christ suffers. It was anger and hatred that brought Jesus to the cross and caused so many of those who should have been with Him to rise up against Him. When we welcome these things, we are actually rejecting Jesus Christ. It is impossible to love if there is a presence of hate and anger.

God himself told us to, “Be holy, for I, the LORD, your God, am holy.” He further stated that there should be no hatred in our hearts for our brothers and sisters. He did not provide for any exception to this command. As God’s children, we are required to obey His instructions. This can be difficult at times but not impossible. As children, we will always make mistakes and none of us are perfect. Yet, we must constantly correct ourselves and keep the thoughts of holiness centered in our consciousness. Where there is holiness, there is love. Where there is love, there is no anger or hatred. Where there is love, there is God.

It is very interesting how one becomes angry and gains the ability to hate. If we think about it for a moment, I feel that we can all come to the same conclusion that we have to actually spend a great deal of time and energy to arrive at that point. Through the process, the presence of Jesus is actually ignored and love is forced out of our hearts. It has been demonstrated that a life with Jesus Christ is so much better than a life without Him. If that is the case, then why would anyone want to push Him away? Yet that is what we do when we become angry and hate. Holiness is the better alternative and, to experience it, means that there cannot be any anger or hatred.

The question then arises: “How as Christians can we avoid the pitfalls of anger and hatred? There is a process here that much be continuously exercised. When the temptation to act in such an adverse way arises, the name of Jesus must be invoked. At the same time, the focus of the anger and hatred should be looked upon as someone who is sick and in need of prayers. This is where Jesus’ command to us about loving our enemies is manifested. Those who are against us and who are bringing about such a powerful, unfavorable response within us are diseased and are in need of healing. That healing comes through Jesus Christ. We are the light of Christ and now have an opportunity to show another person salvation. We should not want to be the sick ones but should want to heal those who are.

Paul offers to us a beautiful image of us being temples of God. We are Living Tabernacles with Jesus Christ dwelling within us. We are unified with Christ and He is constantly at work inside of us. How are we going to react to His presence? We need to acknowledge Him and embrace Him. Nothing is impossible when we do this. It is when we turn away from His presence when we will find ourselves in a terrible place. Paul proclaims boldly that that choice will lead to our utter destruction. This serves as a warning to us. Anything that we do against Jesus Christ will ultimately lead to our ruin. It is important for us to correct ourselves constantly and build on the foundation of our faith so as to be transformed by Christ continuously. We need to surrender to Jesus and let him do the work He so earnestly wants to do within us.

All of us, regardless of the circumstances we find ourselves in, can serve as an example for others to follow as long as we keep following Christ. Anything that is negative or brings about a negative response should be removed from our life. Nothing is negative with Christ. This includes relationships, thoughts, and feelings. They must be transformed into love. This is what being holy is all about. God is holy. God is love. For us to become holy means to become all about love. With love there is no room for anger, animosity, or hatred.

Cuando alguien te golpea en la mejilla derecha,
A su vez el otro también.
Si alguien quiere ir a la ley con usted sobre su túnica,
La mano sobre su capa también.
Si alguien le presiona en el servicio de una milla,
Ir por dos millas.
Dar a quien te pide,
Y no dar la espalda a uno que quiere pedir prestado.

"Ustedes han oído que se dijo,
Amarás a tu prójimo y odiarás a tu enemigo.
Pero yo os digo, amad a vuestros enemigos
Y ruega por los que te persiguen,
Para que seáis hijos de vuestro Padre celestial,
Porque hace salir su sol sobre lo malo y lo bueno,
Y hace caer la lluvia sobre los justos y los injustos.
Porque si amas a los que te aman, ¿qué recompensa tendrás?
¿No hacen los cobradores de impuestos hacer lo mismo?
Y si solo saludan a sus hermanos,
Lo que es inusual en eso?
¿No hacen los paganos lo mismo?
Así que sé perfecto, así como tu Padre celestial es perfecto.

MIS HERMANOS Y HERMANAS,


Como cristianos, el odio no pertenece a nuestros corazones. Nos sentimos alentados a eliminar todos esos pensamientos negativos y emociones distorsionadas que se deslizan fácilmente a diario a medida que vivimos nuestras vidas. Esto está en marcado contraste con lo que vemos todos los días en la sociedad. Es común que la gente azota, grita, se queja y acusa. Jesucristo quiere mostrarnos un camino diferente. Estos fuertes sentimientos sirven como una fuerza divisoria entre nosotros y una vida de alegría. Se originan de Satanás, creando obstáculos entre nosotros y una vida verdaderamente cristiana. Cada vez que actuamos sobre estas emociones, nuestra relación con Jesucristo sufre. Fue la ira y el odio lo que llevó a Jesús a la cruz y causó que muchos de los que debían estar con Él se alzaran contra Él. Cuando damos la bienvenida a estas cosas, en realidad estamos rechazando a Jesucristo. Es imposible amar si hay presencia de odio e ira.

Dios mismo nos dijo: "Sed santos, porque yo, el SEÑOR vuestro Dios, soy santo." Él dijo además que no debe haber odio en nuestros corazones por nuestros hermanos y hermanas. No preveía ninguna excepción a esta orden. Como hijos de Dios, tenemos que obedecer sus instrucciones. Esto puede ser difícil a veces, pero no imposible. Como niños, siempre cometemos errores y ninguno de nosotros es perfecto. Sin embargo, debemos constantemente corregirnos y mantener los pensamientos de santidad centrados en nuestra conciencia. Donde hay santidad, hay amor. Donde hay amor, no hay ira ni odio. Donde hay amor, hay Dios.

Es muy interesante cómo uno se enoja y gana la capacidad de odiar. Si pensamos en ello por un momento, siento que todos podemos llegar a la misma conclusión de que tenemos que gastar realmente una gran cantidad de tiempo y energía para llegar a ese punto. A través del proceso, la presencia de Jesús es realmente ignorada y el amor es expulsado de nuestros corazones. Se ha demostrado que una vida con Jesucristo es mucho mejor que una vida sin Él. Si ese es el caso, entonces ¿por qué alguien querría alejarlo? Sin embargo, eso es lo que hacemos cuando nos enojamos y odiamos. La santidad es la mejor alternativa y, para experimentarla, significa que no puede haber ira ni odio.

Entonces surge la pregunta: "¿Cómo, como cristianos, podemos evitar las trampas de la ira y el odio? Hay un proceso aquí que mucho debe ser continuamente ejercido. Cuando surge la tentación de actuar de tal manera adversa, el nombre de Jesús debe ser invocado. Al mismo tiempo, el foco de la ira y el odio debe considerarse como alguien que está enfermo y necesita oraciones. Aquí es donde el mandamiento de Jesús de amar a nuestros enemigos se manifiesta. Aquellos que están en contra de nosotros y que están provocando una respuesta tan poderosa y desfavorable dentro de nosotros están enfermos y necesitan sanidad. Esa sanidad viene a través de Jesucristo. Somos la luz de Cristo y ahora tenemos la oportunidad de mostrar a otra persona la salvación. No deberíamos querer ser los enfermos, sino querer curar a los que lo son.

Pablo nos ofrece una hermosa imagen de nosotros siendo templos de Dios. Somos tabernáculos vivientes con Jesucristo habitando dentro de nosotros. Estamos unidos con Cristo y Él está constantemente trabajando dentro de nosotros. ¿Cómo vamos a reaccionar ante Su presencia? Necesitamos reconocerlo y abrazarlo. Nada es imposible cuando hacemos esto. Es cuando nos alejamos de Su presencia cuando nos encontraremos en un lugar terrible. Pablo proclama audazmente que esa elección conducirá a nuestra completa destrucción. Esto nos sirve de advertencia. Cualquier cosa que hagamos contra Jesucristo conducirá a nuestra ruina. Es importante que nos corrijamos constantemente y construyamos sobre el fundamento de nuestra fe para ser continuamente transformados por Cristo. Necesitamos rendirnos a Jesús y dejar que haga el trabajo que Él tan fervientemente quiere hacer dentro de nosotros.

Todos nosotros, sin importar las circunstancias en las que nos encontremos, podemos servir de ejemplo para que otros sigan mientras sigamos a Cristo. Cualquier cosa que sea negativa o que traiga una respuesta negativa debe ser eliminada de nuestra vida. Nada es negativo con Cristo. Esto incluye relaciones, pensamientos y sentimientos. Deben transformarse en amor. Esto es lo que significa ser santo. Dios es santo. Dios es amor. Para que seamos santos medios de llegar a ser todo acerca del amor. Con el amor no hay lugar para la ira, la animosidad, o el odio.
