Beloved:
Rejoice to the extent that you share in the sufferings of Christ,
so that when his glory is revealed
you may also rejoice exultantly.
If you are insulted for the name of Christ, blessed are you,
for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.
But let no one among you be made to suffer
as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as an intriguer.
But whoever is made to suffer as a Christian should not be ashamed
but glorify God because of the name.

Gospel Jn 17:1-11a

Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said,
"Father, the hour has come.
Give glory to your son, so that your son may glorify you,
just as you gave him authority over all people,
so that your son may give eternal life to all you gave him.
Now this is eternal life,
that they should know you, the only true God,
and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ.
I glorified you on earth
by accomplishing the work that you gave me to do.
Now glorify me, Father, with you,
with the glory that I had with you before the world began.

"I revealed your name to those whom you gave me out of the world.
They belonged to you, and you gave them to me,
and they have kept your word.
Now they know that everything you gave me is from you,
because the words you gave to me I have given to them,
and they accepted them and truly understood that I came from you,
and they have believed that you sent me.
I pray for them.
I do not pray for the world but for the ones you have given me,
because they are yours, and everything of mine is yours
and everything of yours is mine,
and I have been glorified in them.
And now I will no longer be in the world,
but they are in the world, while I am coming to you."

MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS,

 We have been commissioned by Christ to build up His Kingdom here on this earth and spread the Good News of Salvation through Him. As long as we keep this focus and acknowledge what we have to do as Children of God, our lives will immediately take on a new meaning. We will also be able to permit the Grace of God to enter our hearts and transform us all the more. This has all been offered to us through Jesus Christ. He has claimed us as His own and with that we have the privilege of being called His children.

Throughout The Easter Season we have been reading almost exclusively from the Gospel of John. Through these readings, we have learned more about the relationship that we have with God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Love of God which is the Holy Spirit. We are continuously invited into the relationship of the Trinity and, regardless of how many times we try to break away from it through our sinful actions and thoughts, we can never escape it. Just as mother has a natural bond with her children, so too does God have the same with us. Under everything else that might cloud or distort that relationship through the interference of the evil allures of this world, there is a foundation of love. Our minds at times might corrupt us into thinking otherwise, but there is love within all of us that originates from God. Depending on the person, it may be buried deep within layers of muck and grime, distorted beyond recognition through the wreckage of darkness, but it is still there. To discover it, one must recognize it and start digging.

Jesus told us that He remains in us as we remain in Him. Because of this, because He ascended into heaven, we were also taken up. We are above this world and everything that dwells within it. We have achieved a higher spiritual state of being through this relationship. We just need to take the time to explore it. Jesus further reveals to us that we were given to him by the Father. This is a description of our relationship within the Trinity. We are watched over, protected, and guided by Christ under the loving presence of the Father. Jesus is at once our Father, brother, lover, and friend.

So, where do we go from here? We all should read these words and as Christians take them to heart. We then must contemplate them and, just as the Apostles and disciples did before us, pray. Prayer is the proper response to revelation and understanding. Prayer pushes everything else aside where only we and Jesus Christ remain. When we react in this manner, then more revelation and understanding will follow. It is an acknowledgement of the most important relationship in our existence. We naturally become closer to our Creator and feel His presence. Even when life overwhelms us, prayer will overcome this state and lift us up above it. Just as Jesus Christ is eternal with no beginning and end, so are we which gives us the capability to defeat anything that challenges us in this physical world.

Anything that causes us grief, anything that causes us pain, is easily defeated through the Love of God. He is our Father and created everything in the universe. Because of this and because of the fact that He is within us, nothing at all can overcome us if only we celebrate that relationship which binds us to Him.

Evangelio Jn 17: 1-11a

Para que tu hijo dé vida eterna a todo lo que le diste.

MIS HERMANOS Y HERMANAS,

 Hemos sido comisionados por Cristo para edificar Su Reino aquí en esta tierra y difundir la Buena Nueva de la Salvación por medio de Él. Mientras mantengamos este enfoque y reconozcamos lo que tenemos que hacer como Hijos de Dios, nuestras vidas tomarán inmediatamente un nuevo significado. También podremos permitir que la Gracia de Dios entre en nuestros corazones y nos transforme aún más. Todo esto nos ha sido ofrecido a través de Jesucristo. Él nos ha reclamado como Suyos y con eso tenemos el privilegio de ser llamados Sus hijos.

A lo largo de la Pascua hemos estado leyendo casi exclusivamente del Evangelio de Juan. A través de estas lecturas, hemos aprendido más sobre la relación que tenemos con Dios el Padre, Jesús el Hijo, y el Amor de Dios que es el Espíritu Santo. Estamos continuamente invitados a la relación de la Trinidad y, sin importar cuántas veces intentamos romper con ella a través de nuestras acciones y pensamientos pecaminosos, nunca podremos escapar de ella. Así como la madre tiene un vínculo natural con sus hijos, así también Dios tiene lo mismo con nosotros. Bajo todo lo que podría nublar o distorsionar esa relación a través de la interferencia de los malos atractivos de este mundo, hay una base de amor. Nuestras mentes a veces nos pueden corromper a pensar de otra manera, pero hay amor dentro de todos nosotros que se origina de Dios. Dependiendo de la persona, puede ser enterrado profundamente dentro de capas de mugre y mugre, distorsionado más allá del reconocimiento a través de los restos de la oscuridad, pero todavía está allí. Para descubrirlo, uno debe reconocerlo y empezar a cavar.

Jesús nos dijo que Él permanece en nosotros mientras permanecemos en Él. Debido a esto, porque Él ascendió al cielo, también fuimos tomados. Estamos por encima de este mundo y de todo lo que mora en él. Hemos alcanzado un estado espiritual más alto de ser a través de esta relación. Sólo necesitamos tomar el tiempo para explorarlo. Jesús nos revela aún más que le fuimos dados por el Padre. Esta es una descripción de nuestra relación dentro de la Trinidad. Somos vigilados, protegidos y guiados por Cristo bajo la presencia amorosa del Padre. Jesús es a la vez nuestro Padre, hermano, amante y amigo.

¿Entonces, dónde vamos desde aquí? Todos debemos leer estas palabras y como cristianos tomarlas a corazón. Entonces debemos contemplarlos y, así como los Apóstoles y los discípulos hicieron antes de nosotros, orar. La oración es la respuesta apropiada a la revelación y al entendimiento. La oración empuja todo lo demás a un lado, donde sólo nosotros y Jesucristo permanecemos. Cuando reaccionamos de esta manera, seguirán más revelación y entendimiento. Es un reconocimiento de la relación más importante en nuestra existencia. Naturalmente nos acercamos a nuestro Creador y sentimos Su presencia. Incluso cuando la vida nos abruma, la oración vencerá este estado y nos elevará por encima de él. Así como Jesucristo es eterno sin principio ni fin, también lo somos, lo cual nos da la capacidad de derrotar cualquier cosa que nos desafíe en este mundo físico.

Cualquier cosa que nos cause dolor, cualquier cosa que nos cause dolor, es fácilmente derrotada a través del Amor de Dios. Él es nuestro Padre y creó todo en el universo. Debido a esto y debido al hecho de que Él está dentro de nosotros, nada en absoluto puede vencernos si sólo celebramos esa relación que nos une a Él.

Then Peter stood up with the Eleven,

this Jesus whom you crucified."

and they asked Peter and the other apostles,
"What are we to do, my brothers?"
Peter said to them,
"Repent and be baptized, every one of you,
in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins;
and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
For the promise is made to you and to your children
and to all those far off,
whomever the Lord our God will call."
He testified with many other arguments, and was exhorting them,
"Save yourselves from this corrupt generation."
Those who accepted his message were baptized,
and about three thousand persons were added that day.

Beloved:
If you are patient when you suffer for doing what is good,
this is a grace before God.

He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.

When he was insulted, he returned no insult;
when he suffered, he did not threaten;
instead, he handed himself over to the one who judges justly.
He himself bore our sins in his body upon the cross,
so that, free from sin, we might live for righteousness.
By his wounds you have been healed.
For you had gone astray like sheep,
but you have now returned to the shepherd and guardian of your souls.

Gospel Jn 10:1-10

Jesus said:
"Amen, amen, I say to you,
whoever does not enter a sheepfold through the gate
but climbs over elsewhere is a thief and a robber.
But whoever enters through the gate is the shepherd of the sheep.
The gatekeeper opens it for him, and the sheep hear his voice,
as the shepherd calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.
When he has driven out all his own,
he walks ahead of them, and the sheep follow him,
because they recognize his voice.
But they will not follow a stranger;
they will run away from him,
because they do not recognize the voice of strangers."
Although Jesus used this figure of speech,
the Pharisees did not realize what he was trying to tell them.

So Jesus said again, "Amen, amen, I say to you,
I am the gate for the sheep.
All who came before me are thieves and robbers,
but the sheep did not listen to them.
I am the gate.
Whoever enters through me will be saved,
and will come in and go out and find pasture.
A thief comes only to steal and slaughter and destroy;
I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly."

MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS,

 We as Christians have been baptized in Jesus Christ and now are sharers in His manifold grace. Not only are we given that Sanctifying Grace necessary for salvation but we also have the opportunity to experience the presence of His love continuously if only we recognize Him for what He is: The True Shepherd and our savior. Even though most of us received this baptism when we were younger, we are now at the age where we can fully understand its implications and importance. We have received a birthright, protection, and membership into Jesus’ church. We are part of His flock and we follow Him for He provides the way to a joyful life and salvation. Broken though we may be, we have already been forgiven. He is only waiting for us to ask. The gate stands before us. We only have to walk through it.

Each of us is an individual person whom Jesus recognizes as special and important. We are unique and special in the eyes of Jesus Christ. Our joviality in this life and our peace of mind is important to Him. He wants us to experience this life to its fullest the proper way in order that He can be revealed to us through His creation and that our ultimate goal to be one with Him can be realized. A sheep is lost without its shepherd and faces starvation and death while there is safety, security, and love with him. I can safely say that we all have experienced being lost; wandering in the wilderness. While there, we all have probably cultivated a resume of misfortune based on bad decisions that led to disappointment. Jesus sends the message that, regardless of where we find ourselves, we can always be led out of that loneliness to a place where we can be reborn by rediscovering what we have always had through our baptism. We just need to listen to the sound of His voice calling to us.

The past is behind us. It is a record of where we have been and is an intricate part of who we are today. Yet, the only impact it really has on the person we can be today through Jesus Christ is to the extend we allow it to influence our thoughts and actions. We have the ability to be transformed every day and with that we become a new creation. Our thoughts should be centered on the present with an intent on the future. Christ dwells with us now, in the moment, and He longs to walk with us into the future. He stands before us to protect us and love us as much as we will allow Him to do so. The only thing preventing us from embracing Him is us and our selfishness. We struggle with ourselves to let go of everything, good and bad, and be with Him. We need to take a moment and ask ourselves, “Why are we struggling so much against something that is good for us and for all of creation?”

Jesus Christ wants us to enter Him, the gate, so that we may be rescued from ourselves. He then describes in the Gospel Reading how we will then go out from the gate and find pasture. Entering the gate elevates us to a higher awareness of spirituality which then enables us to reenter the physical world more united to Him and more ready for the joy offered to us. He mentions life and having it more abundantly. Without Jesus Christ there is no life. Without Jesus Christ there is nothing. Uniting ourselves with Him gives us purpose and maximizes all that we will experience today and throughout all the tomorrows forever.

Amado:
Si usted es paciente cuando sufre por hacer lo que es bueno,
Esto es una gracia delante de Dios.
Porque a esto has sido llamado,
Porque también Cristo sufrió por vosotros,
Dejándole un ejemplo que usted debe seguir en sus pasos.
No cometió pecado, ni engaño en su boca.

Cuando fue insultado, no devolvió ningún insulto;
Cuando sufrió, no amenazó;
Sino que se entregó al que juzga con justicia.
Él mismo llevó nuestros pecados en su cuerpo sobre la cruz,
Para que, libres del pecado, podamos vivir para la justicia.
Por sus heridas has sido sanado.

Jesus dijo:

MIS HERMANOS Y HERMANAS,

 Nosotros como cristianos hemos sido bautizados en Jesucristo y ahora somos partícipes en Su múltiple gracia. No sólo se nos da la Gracia Santificadora necesaria para la salvación, sino que también tenemos la oportunidad de experimentar la presencia de Su amor continuamente si sólo lo reconocemos por lo que El es: El Verdadero Pastor y nuestro salvador. A pesar de que la mayoría de nosotros recibimos este bautismo cuando éramos más jóvenes, ahora estamos en la edad en la que podemos comprender plenamente sus implicaciones y la importancia. Hemos recibido un derecho de nacimiento, protección y membresía en la iglesia de Jesús. Somos parte de Su rebaño y lo seguimos porque Él provee el camino a una vida gozosa y salvación. Quebrantado que estemos, ya hemos sido perdonados. Sólo está esperando que le preguntemos. La puerta está delante de nosotros. Sólo tenemos que caminar a través de ella.

Cada uno de nosotros es una persona individual a quien Jesús reconoce como especial e importante. Somos únicos y especiales a los ojos de Jesucristo. Nuestra jovialidad en esta vida y nuestra paz mental son importantes para Él. Él quiere que experimentemos esta vida al máximo de la manera apropiada para que Él pueda ser revelado a nosotros a través de Su creación y que nuestra meta final de ser uno con Él pueda ser realizada. Una oveja se pierde sin su pastor y enfrenta el hambre y la muerte mientras hay seguridad, seguridad y amor con él. Puedo decir con seguridad que todos hemos experimentado la pérdida; Vagando en el desierto. Mientras que allí, todos hemos cultivado probablemente un curriculum vitae de la desgracia basada en las decisiones malas que llevaron a la decepción. Jesús envía el mensaje de que, independientemente de dónde nos encontremos, siempre podemos ser llevados de esa soledad a un lugar donde podemos renacer redescubriendo lo que siempre hemos tenido a través de nuestro bautismo. Sólo necesitamos escuchar el sonido de Su voz que nos llama.

El pasado está detrás de nosotros. Es un registro de lo que hemos sido y es una parte intrincada de lo que somos hoy. Sin embargo, el único impacto que realmente tiene sobre la persona que podemos ser hoy por medio de Jesucristo es, en la medida en que lo permitimos, influir en nuestros pensamientos y acciones. Tenemos la capacidad de ser transformados todos los días y con eso nos convertimos en una nueva creación. Nuestros pensamientos deben centrarse en el presente con una intención en el futuro. Cristo vive con nosotros ahora, en el momento, y Él anhela caminar con nosotros hacia el futuro. Él está delante de nosotros para protegernos y amarnos tanto como le permitiremos que lo haga. Lo único que nos impide abrazarlo es a nosotros ya nuestro egoísmo. Luchamos con nosotros mismos para dejar ir todo, bueno y malo, y estar con Él. Necesitamos tomar un momento y preguntarnos: "¿Por qué estamos luchando tanto contra algo que es bueno para nosotros y para toda la creación?".

Jesucristo quiere que entremos en él, la puerta, para que podamos ser rescatados de nosotros mismos. A continuación, describe en la Lectura del Evangelio cómo saldremos de la puerta y encontraremos pastos. Entrar en la puerta nos eleva a una mayor conciencia de espiritualidad que nos permite volver a entrar en el mundo físico más unido a Él y más preparado para la alegría que se nos ofrece. Él menciona la vida y la tiene más abundante. Sin Jesucristo no hay vida. Sin Jesucristo no hay nada. Unirnos con Él nos da un propósito y maximiza todo lo que experimentaremos hoy y por todos los mañanas para siempre.
