On this mountain the LORD of hosts
will provide for all peoples
a feast of rich food and choice wines,

On this mountain he will destroy
the veil that veils all peoples,
the web that is woven over all nations;

The Lord GOD will wipe away
the tears from every face;
the reproach of his people he will remove
from the whole earth; for the LORD has spoken.

"Behold our God, to whom we looked to save us!

Gospel Mt 22:1-14

Jesus again in reply spoke to the chief priests and elders of the people
in parables, saying,
"The kingdom of heaven may be likened to a king
who gave a wedding feast for his son.
He dispatched his servants
to summon the invited guests to the feast,
but they refused to come.
A second time he sent other servants, saying,
'Tell those invited: "Behold, I have prepared my banquet,
my calves and fattened cattle are killed,
and everything is ready; come to the feast."'
Some ignored the invitation and went away,
one to his farm, another to his business.
The rest laid hold of his servants,
mistreated them, and killed them.
The king was enraged and sent his troops,
destroyed those murderers, and burned their city.
Then he said to his servants, 'The feast is ready,
but those who were invited were not worthy to come.
Go out, therefore, into the main roads
and invite to the feast whomever you find.'
The servants went out into the streets
and gathered all they found, bad and good alike,
and the hall was filled with guests.
But when the king came in to meet the guests,
he saw a man there not dressed in a wedding garment.
The king said to him, 'My friend, how is it
that you came in here without a wedding garment?'
But he was reduced to silence.
Then the king said to his attendants, 'Bind his hands and feet,
and cast him into the darkness outside,
where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.'
Many are invited, but few are chosen."

 MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS,

 The Wedding Feast that God invites us to is one where everyone is welcome regardless of stature, position, or prestige. In fact, those of us who find ourselves broken and downtrodden will be lifted up to a higher place of honor than those who have not experienced a life without God. The feast is continuous. There is no beginning or end just as there is no starting point or finish to God’s Love. As others arrive, those who have begun to celebrate welcome the new arrivals as ones who welcome a king. The new arrivals are dirty and worn; fresh from their experiences which were of nightmarish proportions. It is here, within the banquet hall that they can finally rest. The food that is eaten is that which comes from Jesus Christ. It nourishes us spiritually so that we are strengthened beyond our present condition whatever it may be.

At the same time, there has to be some recognition here. Who put on this feast? Who invited everyone to attend? It is God who called us forth to enjoy this great celebration which focuses on His only Son and His wedding. This wedding is all about Jesus Christ and the Holy Mother Church which was established by Him on this earth so that we may encounter Him in our daily lives and achieve salvation. Coming to the wedding feast indicates a commitment to Jesus and to His Church; we become witnesses to this glorious event and partakers in all the benefits that flow from it. Even though the celebration is about the wedding, we are all benefactors of what has happened. God has invited us into a relationship with Jesus and has offered everything to us in return for celebrating the event. We are then challenged in regards to how we are to react to it. We can callously come forward in expectation to reap the benefits of a free party or we can delve into the full experience and joy. God has offered everything out front without and preconditions. He just asks us to accept the invitation and everything that comes afterwards.

Usually, in our experiences, we are invited to a celebration only if we have some sort of significance or importance to the particular event. In this case, with God, we are invited solely because He loves us and because He wants us to enjoy the celebration. Jesus has become flesh and dwells amongst us. He has established His Church. In contrast where other peoples’ weddings are about themselves, He is actually offering all of these benefits to us. We are celebrating our own salvation and victory over Satan.

How are we going to treat this? Are we to arrive at the wedding feast without any recognition regarding to what it means? To do this means that we might be rejected. Coming forward with an interest but not a commitment to the celebration leads to an event such as that which occurred with the man not dressed in wedding attire. The message is clear: we must fully commit to what God is offering us through Jesus Christ. From there, we can experience the fundamental change in our lives which is necessary for salvation. God offers everything. We only need to accept it.

Paul reminds us in his letter today that whatever circumstance that he encounters is nothing in comparison to his relationship with Jesus Christ. That is the most important factor that keeps him going forward evangelizing the faith in Jesus. If things are good, then praise God. If things are bad, then praise God more. In the end, it doesn’t matter. He recognizes that God is with him through it all and he will be okay. Whatever he encounters will work out in the end for the greater glory of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus has a plan for all of us. He loves us so much that He doesn’t want to force us into His plan. We need to accept it, embrace it, and love it. It is our choice. He reminds us that the consequences of that choice will have a great impact on our future in this life and the next.

Todo lo puedo unido a aquel que me da fuerza. Sin embargo, han hecho bien ustedes en socorrerme, cuando me vi en dificultades.

Mt 22, 1-14

En aquel tiempo, volvió Jesús a hablar en parábolas a los sumos sacerdotes y a los ancianos del pueblo, diciendo: "El Reino de los cielos es semejante a un rey que preparó un banquete de bodas para su hijo. Mandó a sus criados que llamaran a los invitados, pero éstos no quisieron ir.

Envió de nuevo a otros criados que les dijeran: 'Tengo preparado el banquete; he hecho matar mis terneras y los otros animales gordos; todo está listo. Vengan a la boda'. Pero los invitados no hicieron caso. Uno se fue a su campo, otro a su negocio y los demás se les echaron encima a los criados, los insultaron y los mataron.

Entonces el rey se llenó de cólera y mandó sus tropas, que dieron muerte a aquellos asesinos y prendieron fuego a la ciudad.

Luego les dijo a sus criados: 'La boda está preparada; pero los que habían sido invitados no fueron dignos. Salgan, pues, a los cruces de los caminos y conviden al banquete de bodas a todos los que encuentren'. Los criados salieron a los caminos y reunieron a todos los que encontraron, malos y buenos, y la sala del banquete se llenó de convidados.

Cuando el rey entró a saludar a los convidados vio entre ellos a un hombre que no iba vestido con traje de fiesta y le preguntó: 'Amigo, ¿cómo has entrado aquí sin traje de fiesta?' Aquel hombre se quedó callado. Entonces el rey dijo a los criados: 'Átenlo de pies y manos y arrójenlo fuera, a las tinieblas. Allí será el llanto y la desesperación. Porque muchos son los llamados y pocos los escogidos".

MIS HERMANOS Y HERMANAS,

 La fiesta de bodas a la que Dios nos invita es una invitación a todos, independientemente de su estatus, posición o prestigio. De hecho, aquellos de nosotros que nos encontramos rotos y oprimidos serán elevados a un lugar de honor más elevado que aquellos que no han experimentado una vida sin Dios. La fiesta es continua. No hay principio ni fin, así como no hay un punto de partida o un final para el Amor de Dios. Mientras llegan otros, aquellos que han comenzado a celebrar dan la bienvenida a los recién llegados como aquellos que dan la bienvenida a un rey. Los recién llegados están sucios y gastados; fresco de sus experiencias que eran de proporciones de pesadilla. Es aquí, dentro del salón de banquetes, donde finalmente pueden descansar. La comida que se come es la que proviene de Jesucristo. Nos nutre espiritualmente para que seamos fortalecidos más allá de nuestra condición presente sea lo que sea.

Al mismo tiempo, debe haber algún reconocimiento aquí. ¿Quién se puso esta fiesta? ¿Quién invitó a todos a asistir? Es Dios quien nos llamó para disfrutar de esta gran celebración que se centra en Su único Hijo y Su boda. Esta boda trata sobre Jesucristo y la Santa Madre Iglesia que fue establecida por Él en esta tierra para que podamos encontrarnos con Él en nuestras vidas diarias y alcanzar la salvación. Llegar a la fiesta de bodas indica un compromiso con Jesús y con su Iglesia; somos testigos de este glorioso evento y participamos de todos los beneficios que surgen de él. Aunque la celebración se trata de la boda, todos somos benefactores de lo sucedido. Dios nos ha invitado a una relación con Jesús y nos ha ofrecido todo a cambio de la celebración del evento. Luego nos desafían en cuanto a cómo reaccionar ante él. Podemos presentarnos cruelmente con la expectativa de obtener los beneficios de una fiesta libre o podemos adentrarnos en la experiencia y la alegría. Dios ha ofrecido todo de frente sin y condiciones previas. Solo nos pide que aceptemos la invitación y todo lo que venga después.

Por lo general, en nuestras experiencias, estamos invitados a una celebración solo si tenemos algún tipo de importancia o importancia para el evento en particular. En este caso, con Dios, estamos invitados únicamente porque Él nos ama y porque quiere que disfrutemos de la celebración. Jesús se ha hecho carne y habita entre nosotros. El ha establecido su iglesia. En contraste, donde las bodas de otras personas son sobre sí mismos, en realidad Él nos ofrece todos estos beneficios. Estamos celebrando nuestra propia salvación y victoria sobre Satanás.

¿Cómo vamos a tratar esto? ¿Vamos a llegar a la fiesta de la boda sin ningún reconocimiento con respecto a lo que significa? Para hacer esto significa que podríamos ser rechazados. Avanzar con un interés, pero no un compromiso con la celebración, lleva a un evento como el que ocurrió con el hombre que no vestía atuendos de boda. El mensaje es claro: debemos comprometernos completamente con lo que Dios nos ofrece a través de Jesucristo. Desde allí, podemos experimentar el cambio fundamental en nuestras vidas que es necesario para la salvación. Dios ofrece todo. Solo tenemos que aceptarlo.

Pablo nos recuerda en su carta hoy que cualquier circunstancia que encuentre no es nada en comparación con su relación con Jesucristo. Ese es el factor más importante que lo mantiene adelante evangelizando la fe en Jesús. Si las cosas son buenas, entonces alaben a Dios. Si las cosas son malas, entonces alaba más a Dios. Al final, no importa. Reconoce que Dios está con él a través de todo y que estará bien. Lo que sea que encuentre se desarrollará al final para la mayor gloria de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

Jesús tiene un plan para todos nosotros. Él nos ama tanto que no quiere forzarnos en su plan. Tenemos que aceptarlo, abrazarlo y amarlo. Es nuestra eleccion Nos recuerda que las consecuencias de esa elección tendrán un gran impacto en nuestro futuro en esta vida y la próxima.

my friend's song concerning his vineyard.
My friend had a vineyard

he spaded it, cleared it of stones,
and planted the choicest vines;
within it he built a watchtower,

Then he looked for the crop of grapes,
but what it yielded was wild grapes.

Now, inhabitants of Jerusalem and people of Judah,
judge between me and my vineyard:
What more was there to do for my vineyard
that I had not done?
Why, when I looked for the crop of grapes,
did it bring forth wild grapes?
Now, I will let you know
what I mean to do with my vineyard:
take away its hedge, give it to grazing,
break through its wall, let it be trampled!
Yes, I will make it a ruin:
it shall not be pruned or hoed,
but overgrown with thorns and briers;
I will command the clouds
not to send rain upon it.
The vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel,
and the people of Judah are his cherished plant;

Gospel Mt 21:33-43

Jesus said to the chief priests and the elders of the people:
"Hear another parable.
There was a landowner who planted a vineyard,
put a hedge around it, dug a wine press in it, and built a tower.
Then he leased it to tenants and went on a journey.
When vintage time drew near,
he sent his servants to the tenants to obtain his produce.
But the tenants seized the servants and one they beat,
another they killed, and a third they stoned.
Again he sent other servants, more numerous than the first ones,
but they treated them in the same way.
Finally, he sent his son to them, thinking,
'They will respect my son.'
But when the tenants saw the son, they said to one another,
'This is the heir.
Come, let us kill him and acquire his inheritance.'
They seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him.
What will the owner of the vineyard do to those tenants when he comes?"
They answered him,
"He will put those wretched men to a wretched death
and lease his vineyard to other tenants
who will give him the produce at the proper times."
Jesus said to them, "Did you never read in the Scriptures:
The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone;
by the Lord has this been done,
and it is wonderful in our eyes?
Therefore, I say to you,
the kingdom of God will be taken away from you
and given to a people that will produce its fruit."

 MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS,

 We all dwell within the vineyard together. Jesus Christ has opened the gates wide and offers entrance to anyone who wishes to work, live, and rejoice in His name. There is no price to pay. There are no requirements and there is no cost for admission. There only needs to be a desire to leave the wasteland that is a life without Jesus and enter into an existence with Him. The work that we then do and the life that we live becomes one that is inseparable from Jesus Christ. The land that we find ourselves living in is one that is owned by the Father. So, as tenants in the vineyard, we belong to Him and are encouraged  to listen to what He has to say. The Landowner knows His land the best and He knows how He wants it tended to and harvested. He also knows how to bring forth the highest yield of grapes which will then in nurture us and satisfy our thirst and hunger for something better.

In one way, the vineyard in the Parable of the Tenants represents Israel and the tenants the People of Israel. God, as the landowner, sends forth his servants (the prophets) to encourage these people to return to Him with love. The response is to reject the prophets and continue their ways of disobedience. Jesus then indicates that they will also do this to Him (the son). Even though this is the case, it is through Jesus Christ and the Incarnation that the message of salvation is revealed to the entire world. What was initially revealed to a Chosen People was now opened up to the entire world.

This is such beautiful imagery. Even though we are not perfect and tend to pursue of own needs and wants, God is so loving that He keeps calling us to return to Him so that He may love us. There is no limit to this love, demonstrated by the fact that He sent His only son into the world to suffer and be crucified so that we may obtain eternal life. He did not have to do this. He wanted to do this. When we are receptive to this love, we are transformed by it: we want to do good works, we want to love one another as we are loved, and we want to live a good Christian Life.

The landowner did not have to send his servants. He did not have to send others to follow. And he certainly did not have to risk his only son. He did it because he wanted to give the tenants an opportunity to do the right thing. God does the same thing. Time and time again we are given chance after chance to accept Him into our lives. So many times we have failed to respond to Him and there will be times in the future when these same actions are repeated. Yet, God is always there willing to forgive and love.

Upon the acceptance of Jesus Christ, the vineyard becomes a paradise. It represents our relationship with God. It will feed us and provide for our needs physically, mentally, and above all spiritually. We are guided and protected by the landowner who is God. Paul tells us in his letter today to have, “no anxiety at all.” All will be provided for through prayer and petition. As long as Jesus Christ is central in our lives then all obstacles, trials, and tribulations can be overcome. Continuous prayer leads to a continuous relationship with Jesus. We will then be able to conduct ourselves and develop all of our relationships through the lens of Jesus Christ.

And as Paul says,

“Keep on doing what you have learned and received
and heard and seen in me.
Then the God of peace will be with you.”

Is 5, 1-7

Voy a cantar, en nombre de mi amado,
una canción a su viña.
Mi amado tenía una viña
en una ladera fértil.
Removió la tierra, quitó las piedras
y plantó en ella vides selectas;
edificó en medio una torre
y excavó un lagar.
Él esperaba que su viña diera buenas uvas,
pero la viña dio uvas agrias.

Ahora bien, habitantes de Jerusalén
y gente de Judá, yo les ruego,
sean jueces entre mi viña y yo.
¿Qué más pude hacer por mi viña,
que yo no lo hiciera?
¿Por qué cuando yo esperaba que diera uvas buenas,
las dio agrias?

Ahora voy a darles a conocer lo que haré con mi viña;
le quitaré su cerca y será destrozada.
Derribaré su tapia y será pisoteada.
La convertiré en un erial,
nadie la podará ni le quitará los cardos,
crecerán en ella los abrojos y las espinas,
mandaré a las nubes que no lluevan sobre ella.

Pues bien, la viña del Señor de los ejércitos
es la casa de Israel,
y los hombres de Judá son su plantación preferida.
El Señor esperaba de ellos que obraran rectamente
y ellos, en cambio, cometieron iniquidades;
él esperaba justicia
y sólo se oyen reclamaciones.

Mt 21, 33-43

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a los sumos sacerdotes y a los ancianos del pueblo esta parábola: "Había una vez un propietario que plantó un viñedo, lo rodeó con una cerca, cavó un lagar en él, construyó una torre para el vigilante y luego lo alquiló a unos viñadores y se fue de viaje.

Llegado el tiempo de la vendimia, envió a sus criados para pedir su parte de los frutos a los viñadores; pero éstos se apoderaron de los criados, golpearon a uno, mataron a otro y a otro más lo apedrearon. Envió de nuevo a otros criados, en mayor número que los primeros, y los trataron del mismo modo.

Por último, les mandó a su propio hijo, pensando: 'A mi hijo lo respetarán'. Pero cuando los viñadores lo vieron, se dijeron unos a otros: 'Éste es el heredero. Vamos a matarlo y nos quedaremos con su herencia'. Le echaron mano, lo sacaron del viñedo y lo mataron.

Ahora, díganme: cuando vuelva el dueño del viñedo, ¿qué hará con esos viñadores?'' Ellos le respondieron: "Dará muerte terrible a esos desalmados y arrendará el viñedo a otros viñadores, que le entreguen los frutos a su tiempo".

Entonces Jesús les dijo: "¿No han leído nunca en la Escritura: La piedra que desecharon los constructores, es ahora la piedra angular. Esto es obra del Señor y es un prodigio admirable?

Por esta razón les digo que les será quitado a ustedes el Reino de Dios y se le dará a un pueblo que produzca sus frutos''.

MIS HERMANOS Y HERMANAS,

 Todos moramos juntos en la viña. Jesucristo ha abierto las puertas de par en par y ofrece la entrada a todo aquel que quiera trabajar, vivir y regocijarse en su nombre. No hay precio a pagar. No hay requisitos y no hay costo para la admisión. Sólo tiene que haber un deseo de dejar la tierra baldía que es una vida sin Jesús y entrar en una existencia con él. La obra que hacemos y la vida que vivimos se convierte en una que es inseparable de Jesucristo. La tierra en la que vivimos es una propiedad del Padre. Por lo tanto, como inquilinos en la viña, que le pertenecen y se les anima a escuchar lo que tiene que decir. El terrateniente conoce mejor su tierra y sabe cómo quiere que se cuide y coseche. Él también sabe cómo producir el más alto rendimiento de las uvas que luego nos nutrirán y satisfarán nuestra sed y hambre de algo mejor.

De una manera, la viña en la Parábola de los Inquilinos representa a Israel y los inquilinos al Pueblo de Israel. Dios, como el terrateniente, envía a sus siervos (los profetas) para alentar a estas personas a volver a Él con amor. La respuesta es rechazar a los profetas y continuar sus caminos de desobediencia. Jesús entonces indica que también le harán esto a El (el hijo). A pesar de que este es el caso, es a través de Jesucristo y la Encarnación que el mensaje de salvación se revela al mundo entero. Lo que inicialmente fue revelado a un Pueblo Escogido se abrió a todo el mundo.

Esta es una imagen tan hermosa. Aunque no somos perfectos y tendemos a perseguir sus propias necesidades y deseos, Dios es tan amoroso que Él nos llama para volver a Él para que Él nos ame. No hay límite para este amor, demostrado por el hecho de que Él envió a Su único hijo al mundo para sufrir y ser crucificado para que obtengamos la vida eterna. No tenía que hacer esto. Él quería hacer esto. Cuando somos receptivos a este amor, somos transformados por él: queremos hacer buenas obras, queremos amarnos unos a otros como somos amados, y queremos vivir una buena vida cristiana.

El terrateniente no tuvo que enviar a sus sirvientes. No tenía que enviar a otros a seguir. Y ciertamente no tenía que arriesgar a su único hijo. Lo hizo porque quería dar a los inquilinos la oportunidad de hacer lo correcto. Dios hace lo mismo. Una y otra vez se nos da la oportunidad de aceptarlo en nuestras vidas. Tantas veces hemos fallado en responderle y habrá momentos en el futuro cuando estas mismas acciones se repitan. Sin embargo, Dios siempre está allí dispuesto a perdonar y amar.

Con la aceptación de Jesucristo, la viña se convierte en un paraíso. Representa nuestra relación con Dios. Nos alimentará y proveerá nuestras necesidades físicamente, mentalmente y sobre todo espiritualmente. Somos guiados y protegidos por el terrateniente que es Dios. Pablo nos dice en su carta de hoy que no tenga "ninguna angustia". Todo será provisto por medio de la oración y la petición. Mientras Jesucristo sea central en nuestras vidas, todos los obstáculos, pruebas y tribulaciones pueden ser superados. La oración continua lleva a una relación continua con Jesús. Entonces seremos capaces de conducirnos y desarrollar todas nuestras relaciones a través de la lente de Jesucristo.

Y como dice Pablo,

"Sigue haciendo lo que has aprendido y recibido
y oyeron y vieron en mí.
Entonces el Dios de paz estará con vosotros ".
