by the waters of a flood;

God added:
"This is the sign that I am giving for all ages to come,
of the covenant between me and you
and every living creature with you:
I set my bow in the clouds to serve as a sign
of the covenant between me and the earth.
When I bring clouds over the earth,
and the bow appears in the clouds,
I will recall the covenant I have made
between me and you and all living beings,
so that the waters shall never again become a flood

Reading 2 1 Pt 3:18-22

Beloved:
Christ suffered for sins once,

In it he also went to preach to the spirits in prison,
who had once been disobedient
while God patiently waited in the days of Noah
during the building of the ark,
in which a few persons, eight in all,
were saved through water.
This prefigured baptism, which saves you now.
It is not a removal of dirt from the body
but an appeal to God for a clear conscience,
through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

The Spirit drove Jesus out into the desert,

Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God:
"This is the time of fulfillment.
The kingdom of God is at hand.
Repent, and believe in the gospel."

MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS,

As the earth was cleansed in the waters of the flood, so were we cleansed of Original Sin through our baptism and were claimed by Christ. We became new creations and our birthright as Children of God was recognized. During this Season of Lent, we are encouraged to meditate on this fact more closely and ask ourselves how we should let this knowledge influence our spiritual life. Recognizing our special status enables us to build on a foundation of faith, hope, and love that has been preconfigured by God through Jesus Christ. This should be viewed  as a wonderful opportunity to structure our lives around our relationship with Jesus Christ and constantly make it better. Even more, going forward, we can be comforted with the fact that whenever we make a mistake or when the structure becomes weak, the foundation established through our baptism always remains strong as long as realize that it is in place.

Jesus’ words in the Gospel Reading today are strong and profound:

 “This is the time of fulfillment.
  The kingdom of God is at hand.
  Repent, and believe in the gospel.”

The time of fulfillment is the Word Becoming Flesh which is the Incarnation. The Kingdom of God is Jesus himself. His baptism by John had just occurred forty days prior and with it came the full revelation of the Holy Trinity. Now, in this passage, Jesus commences with His ministry, telling everyone in the world what we have to do. Included in this is repentance which was first proclaimed by John the Baptist. It means having true remorse for our past sins. With this remorse comes a commitment to change our past behaviors which threaten our relationship with Jesus. This repentance, for it to have its desired effect, must be continuous. There should be a constant examination of our conscious through prayer and reflection. Through repetition comes familiarity. Through familiarity comes a deeper relationship with Jesus. We can then see the difference between our old self and our new selves.

Every day brings a new opportunity through Jesus Christ. When we lay down to sleep He is with us. When we wake up He is there. He never abandons us. He died for us so that we might be led to God. It is a powerful affirmation for us that He who is everything gave everything for us and in return asked for nothing except our love. This is only the beginning of the relationship. Consider what more is in store for us if Jesus started this relationship between us and Him with His own death. This alone should make us feel special. Yet, there is so much more for us to receive if only we be receptive to it. A way to do this is by stripping ourselves down to the foundation that Jesus built for us and to not be afraid of rebuilding everything again. Thoughtful prayer, worship, and a dedication to Sacred Scripture will bring about an abundance of fruit. Acts of charity adds to the harvest. Through the Journey of Lent we will then encounter the Crucified Christ walking His Passion as we endure own. We can be encouraged by the fact of what lies beyond that: The Easter Joy and our redemption.

1 Pt 3, 18-22

Hermanos: Cristo murió, una sola vez y para siempre, por los pecados de los hombres; él, el justo, por nosotros, los injustos, para llevarnos a Dios; murió en su cuerpo y resucitó glorificado. En esta ocasión, fue a proclamar su mensaje a los espíritus encarcelados, que habían sido rebeldes en los tiempos de Noé, cuando la paciencia de Dios aguardaba, mientras se construía el arca, en la que unos pocos, ocho personas, se salvaron flotando sobre el agua. Mc 1, 12-15

En aquel tiempo, el Espíritu impulsó a Jesús a retirarse al desierto, donde permaneció cuarenta días y fue tentado por Satanás. Vivió allí entre animales salvajes, y los ángeles le servían.

Después de que arrestaron a Juan el Bautista, Jesús se fue a Galilea para predicar el Evangelio de Dios y decía: "Se ha cumplido el tiempo y el Reino de Dios ya está cerca. Arrepiéntanse y crean en el Evangelio".

MIS HERMANOS Y HERMANAS,

Así como la tierra fue limpiada en las aguas del diluvio, también fuimos limpiados del pecado original a través de nuestro bautismo y fuimos reclamados por Cristo. Nos convertimos en nuevas creaciones y nuestro derecho de nacimiento como Hijos de Dios fue reconocido. Durante esta Temporada de Cuaresma, se nos anima a meditar en este hecho más de cerca y preguntarnos cómo debemos permitir que este conocimiento influya en nuestra vida espiritual. Reconocer nuestro estatus especial nos permite construir sobre una base de fe, esperanza y amor que ha sido preconfigurado por Dios a través de Jesucristo. Esto debe verse como una maravillosa oportunidad para estructurar nuestras vidas en torno a nuestra relación con Jesucristo y mejorarla constantemente. Aún más, en el futuro, podemos consolarnos con el hecho de que cada vez que cometemos un error o cuando la estructura se debilita, la base establecida a través de nuestro bautismo siempre permanece fuerte en tanto se dé cuenta de que está en su lugar.

Las palabras de Jesús en la lectura del Evangelio de hoy son fuertes y profundas:

 "Este es el momento de la realización".
  El reino de Dios está cerca.
  Arrepiéntanse, y crean en el evangelio ".

El tiempo del cumplimiento es la Palabra que se vuelve carne que es la Encarnación. El Reino de Dios es Jesús mismo. Su bautismo por Juan acababa de ocurrir cuarenta días antes y con él llegó la revelación completa de la Santísima Trinidad. Ahora, en este pasaje, Jesús comienza con Su ministerio, diciéndoles a todos en el mundo lo que tenemos que hacer. Incluido en esto está el arrepentimiento que fue primero proclamado por Juan el Bautista. Significa tener verdadero remordimiento por nuestros pecados pasados. Con este remordimiento viene el compromiso de cambiar nuestros comportamientos pasados ​​que amenazan nuestra relación con Jesús. Este arrepentimiento, para que tenga el efecto deseado, debe ser continuo. Debe haber un examen constante de nuestra conciencia a través de la oración y la reflexión. A través de la repetición, viene la familiaridad. A través de la familiaridad, surge una relación más profunda con Jesús. Entonces podemos ver la diferencia entre nuestro viejo yo y nuestros nuevos yoes.

Todos los días trae una nueva oportunidad a través de Jesucristo. Cuando nos acostamos a dormir Él está con nosotros. Cuando nos despertamos Él está allí. Él nunca nos abandona. Él murió por nosotros para que podamos ser guiados a Dios. Es una poderosa afirmación para nosotros que Él, que es todo, dio todo por nosotros y, a cambio, no nos pidió nada más que nuestro amor. Este es solo el comienzo de la relación. Considera qué más nos espera si Jesús iniciara esta relación entre nosotros y Él con su propia muerte. Esto solo debería hacernos sentir especiales. Sin embargo, hay mucho más que podemos recibir si solo somos receptivos a él. Una forma de hacer esto es dejándonos caer en los cimientos que Jesús construyó para nosotros y no tener miedo de reconstruir todo de nuevo. La oración reflexiva, el culto y la dedicación a la Sagrada Escritura producirán una abundancia de fruto. Los actos de caridad se suman a la cosecha. A través del Viaje de la Cuaresma, entonces nos encontraremos con el Cristo Crucificado caminando su Pasión mientras soportamos nuestra propia vida. Podemos alentarnos por el hecho de lo que está más allá de eso: la alegría de Pascua y nuestra redención.

the priest shall declare him unclean
by reason of the sore on his head.

"The one who bears the sore of leprosy
shall keep his garments rent and his head bare,
and shall muffle his beard;
he shall cry out, 'Unclean, unclean!'
As long as the sore is on him he shall declare himself unclean,
since he is in fact unclean.
He shall dwell apart, making his abode outside the camp."

Gospel Mk 1:40-45

A leper came to Jesus and kneeling down begged him and said,
"If you wish, you can make me clean."
Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand,
touched him, and said to him,
"I do will it. Be made clean."
The leprosy left him immediately, and he was made clean.
Then, warning him sternly, he dismissed him at once.

He said to him, "See that you tell no one anything,
but go, show yourself to the priest
and offer for your cleansing what Moses prescribed;
that will be proof for them."

The man went away and began to publicize the whole matter.
He spread the report abroad
so that it was impossible for Jesus to enter a town openly.
He remained outside in deserted places,
and people kept coming to him from everywhere.

My Brothers and Sisters,

 Society judges us differently than Jesus Christ. Because of that, there will be times in our lives where we feel unclean and unworthy of anything through our thoughts and actions. We will find ourselves wrestling with sins and situations which separate us from the joy we can experience in this life. Embarrassment, shame, and humiliation prevent us from receiving any type or healing from our friends and ultimately Jesus. The first Scripture Reading today focuses on this situation. Under the Old Law, a person who contracts leprosy is pronounced unclean and is assumed cursed by God. They are separated from the community and forced to live as outcasts. It was assumed that they were cursed by God and were living a punishment for their sins or the sins of their forbearers. Under The Law, there was no recompense.

Jesus Christ does not want us to feel that way. It is through Jesus Christ that we receive healing, faith, hope, and love. There is no alienation and humiliation. It is through our relationship with Jesus Christ that all of that ends. In Paul’s letter today, he tells us to be “imitators of Christ.” Christ welcomed those who were deemed unclean and sinners. He embraced the outcast and through that embrace healed them. Through the act of cleansing the leper, Jesus tells us that no one is beyond forgiveness and redemption. There only has to be a desire to be healed and made whole. All we have to do is ask and it will be given to us. There is no precondition. In the same way, we are encouraged to do the same to those who are in pain and are hurting. There should be no precondition to the giving of our love. Christ loves us regardless of what we did or what we are doing. He wants the best for us and we should treat others accordingly.

When we act out our faith, we are not only healing those that we interact with. We are also healing ourselves. When we perform acts of charity in the name of Jesus Christ, He is being revealed to us through the person that we are helping. It is a shared experience. When Jesus healed the leper, not only was the sick person healed physically, he was transformed spiritually by the presence of Jesus which then led to his physical healing. Those who were witnesses to the event were also affected in a profound way. Lastly, all of those who heard the Good News, including the priests, were impacted. Acts of faith

and loves have the capability to do this. There are no limitations to what can be done and who can be affected even through one small act of kindness.

In a Christian Community, the way we interact with one another and with those outside the community can bring a tremendous amount of love and healing. If we don’t conduct ourselves rights, a lot of pain can result also. Doing everything for the glory of God, all of our thoughts and actions, eliminates the negative and insures a positive result. No one is perfect but we can all at least strive for some sort of perfection. Whatever is our focus at a given moment will be that thing which will be displayed with the most prominence be it negative or positive. Unfortunately, the way society is, it is the negative that is remembered most significantly and can wipe away the remembrance of all the good that came before it. Satan is always waiting for the opportunity to emphasize this.

We must always be watchful for weakness within ourselves and within our brothers and sisters. Through prayer and mutual support, we can all keep our focus on Jesus Christ. The more that we do this then the more we will be successful and bear fruit. A tree is known by its fruit and, through Christ, the fruit will always be good.

Mientras le dure la lepra, seguirá impuro y vivirá solo, fuera del campamento".

Evangelio

Mc 1, 40-45

En aquel tiempo, se le acercó a Jesús un leproso para suplicarle de rodillas: "Si tú quieres, puedes curarme". Jesús se compadeció de él, y extendiendo la mano, lo tocó y le dijo: "¡Sí quiero: Sana!" Inmediatamente se le quitó la lepra y quedó limpio.

Al despedirlo, Jesús le mandó con severidad: "No se lo cuentes a nadie; pero para que conste, ve a presentarte al sacerdote y ofrece por tu purificación lo prescrito por Moisés".

Pero aquel hombre comenzó a divulgar tanto el hecho, que Jesús no podía ya entrar abiertamente en la ciudad, sino que se quedaba fuera, en lugares solitarios, a donde acudían a él de todas partes.

Mis hermanos y hermanas,

 La sociedad nos juzga de manera diferente que Jesucristo. Debido a eso, habrá momentos en nuestras vidas en los que nos sentiremos impuros e indignos de cualquier cosa a través de nuestros pensamientos y acciones. Nos encontraremos luchando con pecados y situaciones que nos separan de la alegría que podemos experimentar en esta vida. La vergüenza, la vergüenza y la humillación nos impiden recibir cualquier tipo de sanidad de nuestros amigos y, en última instancia, de Jesús. La primera lectura de las Escrituras hoy se enfoca en esta situación. Bajo la Ley Antigua, una persona que contrae la lepra es declarada inmunda y se supone que es maldita por Dios. Están separados de la comunidad y obligados a vivir como parias. Se suponía que Dios los había maldecido y estaban viviendo un castigo por sus pecados o los pecados de sus antepasados. Según la ley, no hubo recompensa.

Jesucristo no quiere que nosotros nos sintamos así. Es a través de Jesucristo que recibimos curación, fe, esperanza y amor. No hay alienación y humillación. Es a través de nuestra relación con Jesucristo que todo eso termina. En la carta de Pablo de hoy, él nos dice que seamos "imitadores de Cristo". Cristo dio la bienvenida a aquellos que fueron considerados impuros y pecadores. Abrazó al paria y a través de ese abrazo los sanó. A través del acto de limpiar al leproso, Jesús nos dice que nadie está más allá del perdón y la redención. Solo tiene que haber un deseo de ser sanado y completo. Todo lo que tenemos que hacer es preguntar y se nos dará. No hay precondición. De la misma manera, se nos anima a hacer lo mismo con aquellos que sufren y están sufriendo. No debe haber precondición para dar nuestro amor. Cristo nos ama sin importar lo que hayamos hecho o lo que estamos haciendo. Él quiere lo mejor para nosotros y debemos tratar a los demás en consecuencia.

Cuando representamos nuestra fe, no solo estamos sanando a aquellos con quienes interactuamos. También nos estamos curando a nosotros mismos. Cuando realizamos actos de caridad en el nombre de Jesucristo, Él se nos revela a través de la persona a la que estamos ayudando. Es una experiencia compartida. Cuando Jesús sanó al leproso, no solo se sanó físicamente a la persona enferma, sino que se transformó espiritualmente por la presencia de Jesús, que luego lo llevó a su curación física. Aquellos que fueron testigos del evento también se vieron afectados de una manera profunda. Por último, todos los que escucharon las Buenas Nuevas, incluidos los sacerdotes, se vieron afectados. Actos de fe
y los amores tienen la capacidad de hacer esto. No hay limitaciones sobre lo que se puede hacer y quién puede verse afectado incluso a través de un pequeño acto de bondad.

En una comunidad cristiana, la forma en que interactuamos entre nosotros y con aquellos que están fuera de la comunidad puede traer una gran cantidad de amor y curación. Si no nos hacemos con los derechos, también puede causar mucho dolor. Hacer todo por la gloria de Dios, todos nuestros pensamientos y acciones, elimina lo negativo y asegura un resultado positivo. Nadie es perfecto, pero todos podemos, al menos, esforzarnos por algún tipo de perfección. Cualquiera sea nuestro enfoque en un momento dado será esa cosa que se mostrará con mayor prominencia, ya sea negativa o positiva. Lamentablemente, la forma en que la sociedad es, es la negativa que se recuerda más significativamente y puede borrar la remembranza de todo lo bueno que le precedió. Satanás siempre está esperando la oportunidad de enfatizar esto.

Siempre debemos estar atentos a la debilidad dentro de nosotros y dentro de nuestros hermanos y hermanas. A través de la oración y el apoyo mutuo, todos podemos mantener nuestro enfoque en Jesucristo. Mientras más hagamos esto, más éxito tendremos y daremos frutos. Un árbol es conocido por su fruto y, a través de Cristo, la fruta siempre será buena.
